Bucharest, September 16, 2024 – RBJ – By Constantin Radut – For many weeks, this year especially, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, or more affectionately called Radek, has not avoided any opportunity to show his solidarity with the invaded Ukraine, but , especially, to draw the US and NATO states into an open conflict with Putin’s Russian Federation.
The war that has been going on for over two and a half years between Russia and Ukraine opens the pages of another confrontation. The one between Poland and Russia. A rather historical confrontation than a military one. This is because the diplomatic insistence of some bellicose characters in the Warsaw government will not make Poland a great power that will frighten Russia.
But, as the saying goes, the attempt has no death.
Under the umbrella of this expression, Poland urges all NATO member states to increase their armament budgets. And for that he points his finger right at her. In fact, in recent years, whether the Kaczynski government was in power or the government led by Donald Trump, Poland’s arms expenditures have grown dizzyingly, reaching 4.2% of GDP this year, and in 2025 these expenditures are forecast to 4.7% of GDP.
In the political circles on the banks of the Vistula, there is a lot of propaganda that Poland is becoming the third armed force in Europe, both in terms of military endowment and the number of personnel. It is said that already this year, Poland will have approximately 300 thousand soldiers, much more than in the times of the communist regime.
Under the impulse of this reality, Radoslaw Sikorski leads a real campaign to mobilize an increasing number of states in view of a direct war with Russia. He criticizes Germany for not delivering more tanks to Ukraine, requests the US and UK to grant freedom to Ukraine to attack Russian territory in depth, is intensely concerned with the formation of a foreign Legion to fight in Ukraine.
Finally, in the last few days, Poland launched a campaign for the forced collection of Ukrainian men scattered all over the world after the invasion of Russia and sending them to the front of the war. The initiator of this idea is, of course, Radk Sikorsky.
“Stop paying social benefits for people eligible for mobilization! It is not a human right to receive social assistance to avoid being called to defend one’s country. We don’t do that in Poland”, said the head of diplomacy from Warsaw at a regional conference. Alongside him, his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sîbiga, said he “supports” this idea. According to Ukrainian estimates, one million Ukrainian men of military age live abroad, of which 300,000 in Poland, Sîbiga indicated. He did not say how many of them crossed the border illegally.
The following steps is very clear. Poland considers that this is the right moment for Russia to be defeated and erased from the geographical face of Europe. The wheel of history turns, the Poles like to say. The tsarist empire of Russia abolished Poland as a European state for 500 years, until after the First World War the great powers allowed the establishment of the modern Polish state. Following the Second World War, Stalin established the borders of today’s Poland, stealing most of its eastern territories and rewarding it with large cities and rich regions from Germany.
“A scenario taken very seriously”: Poland does not rule out war with Russia
“These are not empty words, I weigh each of my words.” Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, the Polish Minister of Defense, openly warned his countrymen against a possible war with Russia. This hypothesis is taken seriously by Warsaw, which, since the beginning of the conflict two years ago, has continued to appear as the main support of Kiev.
“We must not get used to war, but we must not forget it. The situation is really very serious and more and more countries are feeling it,” Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz explained to the Polish newspaper Super Express. Before indicating that he assumes “all scenarios”, taking “the worst” of them “very seriously”. A tragedy was probably averted last year: a Russian cruise missile flew over Polish territory for three minutes before heading for Ukraine. A fall of this missile on Polish soil could have had international repercussions, as Poland is protected by a collective defense commitment as a member of NATO.
These warlike remarks by the minister are in line with those of Donald Tusk. “I’m not ashamed to use big words: here, in Ukraine, the global front between good and evil passes,” said the Polish PM during a press conference at the beginning of the year.
Is it now Poland’s turn to lead the crusade against Russia? The answer is no! But…
But if the government of Poland has already signed some secret treaty with the great powers for the destruction of Russia? As it happened before the second war, before Poland was invaded by Hitler’s troops!
