On the tower of the big stage, in the evening of December 30, a sequence of evocative images will be projected, to mark, symbolically, the 170 years of existence of TNB.
“At the end of this year 2022, the ‘I.L. A look back to the past, but also to the future, at the end of next year, when the theater will be 50 years old in the current headquarters in Piaţa Universității, in a building that has been reborn in clothes us between 2011 – 2015, marking a new stage in its existence, that of ‘a New Theater for a new audience'”, according to a press release sent to Agerpres by TNB on Saturday.
On December 31, 1852, the lights were turned on for the first time in the “Great Theatre”, which became national in 1876.
“This anniversary year, 2022, during which a record number of awards (14) were made at the National Theater ‘I.L. Caragiale’, 17 new exhibitions were opened within the TNB – Paratheatrical – Visual Arts program, the VIII -th edition of the 9G Program, TNB’s first own Podcast was broadcast (on December 1), 3 workshops were held under the auspices of the Ion Sava Center for Theatrical Research and Creation”, states TNB.

Starting from the same date, the spectators will be able to watch, in the foyer of the Ion Caramitru Hall, a micro-exhibition made by the TNB Museum – “From the Great Theater to the National Theater ‘I.L. Caragiale’ – 170 years of history”, which evokes through posters old, photographs and rare exhibits from the heritage, moments from the institution’s history. Until the end of January 2023, several objects from the old building of the Great Theater, saved from the ruins left after the German bombing of Bucharest on August 24, 1944, when the theater was destroyed, will be exhibited. The exhibition will open on December 30, at 11:00 a.m., when the first free guided tour of the day is also scheduled.
Also in these last days of the year, the public interested in visiting the TNB building will be offered, as an anniversary gift, free guided tours: from 11.00, 13.00, 15.00 and 17.00 on Friday, December 30, and from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31.
