An extremely interesting analysis regarding the role of Turkey in the conflict with Ukraine and the ambition of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to consider himself a character who overestimates the influence on Vladimir Putin in promoting “peace efforts” is presented by Pravda.ru. The Russian daily shows that it is time to put an end to the bad behavior of the Turkish president.
Turkey-Russia-Syria
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in a recent press conference during a visit to South Africa that Ankara supports President Volodymyr Zelensky’s plan for a “peaceful resolution” of the Ukrainian crisis.
To this, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, responded on Thursday that Russia cannot agree “with Zelensky’s so-called peace plan”. That’s because Zelensky’s respectable plan calls for “restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine” and other goals that are impossible for the Russian Federation.
As a result, there were reports on Thursday that the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Russian Federation, Turkey and Syria was postponed as a result of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s stated desire to improve relations with Bashar al-Assad. Cavusoglu defiantly went to Washington, which has publicly indicated that now is not the time to normalize relations with Syria.
Bashar al-Assad does not need Turkey’s initiative
Moscow did not object, but it turned out that the Syrian president was not at all enthusiastic about this version of “peace” in his country. According to Reuters, he refused to negotiate. Damascus fears that the restoration of relations will be “just a pre-election gesture to raise Erdogan’s rating” and will not serve the benefit of Syria.
Assad has his own reasons – he did not think he would sacrifice Idlib, where pro-Turkish groups operate, for the sake of good relations with Erdogan.
He also does not understand why ISIS fighters last year mainly attacked the territories controlled by the Syrian government, basically avoiding the sphere of influence of Turkey in the north and the United States of America in northeastern and eastern Syria.
This week, Ankara adopted a demanding tone in its rush to secure Erdogan the Nobel Peace Prize.
During the discussion on the conflict in Ukraine, the Turkish leader called on Russia to find a “fair solution” to the conflict in Ukraine in “serious dialogue” and “concrete unilateral steps”. After the end of the unilateral Christmas truce (few agreed), Ankara asked for its continuation.
On Wednesday, Erdogan called on Moscow to open a “humanitarian corridor” with Ukraine “to help children, women and the wounded affected by the crisis”, at a meeting of human rights ombudsmen from the Russian Federation and Turkey. He also offered to provide treatment to wounded soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Turkey.
The Russian newspaper shows that in every word of the Turkish side, there is a sign that shows that the Russian Federation is doing everything wrong in Ukraine.
Turkey has an unfriendly policy towards the Russian Federation
The grain deal that Erdogan is so proud of benefited Turkey and Ukraine, but not Russia. Russian grain and fertilizer exports are still under sanctions, although the UN is calling for them to be lifted. Through Odesa, the terrorists arrived in the Russian Federation with grain tankers, which blew up the Crimean bridge.
Despite all the “peaceful efforts” of Turkey, Erdogan is building an empire hostile to Russia. Erdogan himself boosted his personal ratings at the expense of Russian gas and grain ahead of this year’s election and dragged down the Turkish economy.
Pravda believes that the Turks are among those who “if you point a finger at them, they will bite your whole hand”. Erdogan is building an empire and will bite everything Russian piece by piece.
