Romania-Kazakhtan: to intensify bilateral cooperation, with a focus on the transport, agriculture and energy sectors

Astana, October 7, 2025RBJ – The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, had, on October 6, an official meeting with Mr. Murat Karimsakov, President of the Atameken International Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The discussions highlighted the desire of both parties to intensify bilateral cooperation, with a focus on the transport, agriculture and energy sectors, given the existence of a traditional economic relationship between companies from Romania and Kazakhstan.

During these discussions, the President of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban, emphasized that “there are several Romanian companies working in Kazakhstan as subcontractors of the KazMunayGas company, but it is difficult to quantify the exact value of trade between the two states, as long as Romanian products are present on the Kazakh market in finished form, thus entering the accounting of other states. Together with President Atameken, we have established as a priority for the development of bilateral trade access to the Black Sea on the East-West axis, which will facilitate the access of Kazakh entrepreneurs to European markets. Also, another economic opportunity that is worth exploiting by the business environments of the two states is the food industry, by opening lines for processed products. With the end of the military conflict in this area, it is very possible that we will witness a decrease in grain prices. It is very important that, in the future, business people from Romania and Kazakhstan have as many business-to-business contacts as possible, as efficient exchanges of information as possible, thus providing a degree of high level of mutual trust”
