AHK Romania announces the figures on trade between Germany and Romania in the first nine months of 2022, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics (Destatis)
The volume of trade between Germany and Romania in the first nine months of 2022 exceeds that of the same period of the previous year, reaching EUR 28.8 billion. The increase is 17.7% compared to the same period last year (first 9 months 2021: EUR 24.5 billion), according to the latest figures of the Federal Statistical Office.
Thus, exports to Romania amounted to EUR 14.8 billion, which means an increase of 8.8% compared to the same period in 2021, while Germany’s imports from Romania are approaching EUR 13.1 billion, up by 20.6% compared to the situation recorded in the first nine months of last year. These results place Romania in 19th place among Germany’s top trading partners regarding exports and 21st regarding imports.
“The data presented show a sustained dynamic of bilateral economic relations and represent an indicator that German companies want to continue investing in Romania. The proximity to Western Europe, especially in the context of the reorientation of the supply chains, and the membership of the EU and NATO are important assets of Romania. We hope that Romania will be able to materialize its assets regarding energy security and energy supply, respectively to attract additional investments in this field. Moreover, we would like the accession to the Schengen area to be finalized as soon as possible, because, in addition to the many concrete economic benefits, which the business environment urgently needs in a difficult macroeconomic context, this also represents a signal strong political evidence of the fact that Romania is a full member of the EU and that its positive developments in terms of integration into the European family are recognized accordingly. Bilateral trade has a real potential to reach a volume of exchanges of EUR 40 billion by the end of 2022, and thus historical highs in bilateral trade relations in the year in which AHK Romania celebrates its 20th anniversary”, declared Sebastian Metz, general director of AHK Romania.
For AHK Romania, the anniversary year 2022 is under the sign of sustainability, an extremely current theme that cannot be ignored. Sustainability means investing in education, research and development, in the quality of life in the cities and regions where we live. Sustainability also implies sustainable economic systems that are accepted and supported by society. On this thematic complex we want to focus in AHK Sustainabilityyear 2022 and, through a series of events, initiate “green” projects, provoke a dialogue between political, economic and civil society actors and create new, innovative ideas for a sustainable future. German companies are ready to make available their technologies, know-how and best practice to bring bilateral economic relations to a new level.
AHK Romania is the official representative of the German economy. Established in 2002, AHK has more than 550 member companies and offers companies an important platform for networking, information exchange and experiences. Through the services it offers and through the events it organizes, AHK Romania actively supports German companies when they enter the Romanian market and is also a partner of Romanian companies interested in the German market.
