Bucharest, April 9, 2026RBJ – Romania and China are registering a sustained growth in trade relations, with the volume of bilateral trade reaching 8.56 billion euros in 2024, and in the first eleven months of 2025, bilateral imports and exports of goods and services approached 9 billion euros. The possibilities of increasing the volume of foreign trade were discussed yesterday in Bucharest by the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mihai Daraban, and His Excellency Chen Feng, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Romania. The discussions also aimed at identifying concrete mechanisms to stimulate Chinese investments on the Romanian market.

China is already one of Romania’s most important trading partners, and the figures prove it unequivocally. The interest of Chinese investors in the Romanian market is reflected by the presence of 14,562 Chinese-capital companies active in Romania, with a subscribed share capital of over 337 million euros. What we propose at CCIR level is to take the next step: to transform this commercial interest into real investments, into production capacities located on Romanian territory. We have solid arguments, namely: direct access to the European Union market, the Port of Constanta as a strategic hub between the Black Sea and Central Europe, a skilled workforce and sectors with high potential, from energy and agri-food processing to technology. Romania must become a production and export platform for Chinese companies that are seriously looking towards Europe,” declared CCIR President Mihai Daraban.

Romania is a traditional partner and a close friend of China, with an uninterrupted cooperative relationship of 77 years. Chinese companies are showing a growing interest in the Romanian market, especially in the fields of new energy and manufacturing. We want to see an intensification of quality Romanian exports to China and, at the same time, to encourage companies from both countries to collaborate in sectors with high added value — because agri-food products are a good start, but the potential of our partnership goes much further,” said H.E. Chen Feng, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Romania.
