The software industry in Romania recorded a record high of over 9.2 billion euros in 2021, up about 10% from 2020, according to a recent analysis by Keysfin
If in 2020, the threshold of 8.3 billion euros was exceeded, the increase in 2021 shows that software companies have managed to adapt to the pandemic context, continuing the trend of digitization of many important areas in Romania.
“Beyond the major impact of the health crisis, political risks and associated fiscal unpredictability or recent inflationary pressures, the local software industry is consolidating its key role in economic development and turning Romania into a regional hub, one of the fastest growth rates, if not the fastest in the last 10 years, of over 250% “, said Diana Florescu, economic analyst KeysFin, one of the most important providers of business information solutions in Romania.
>>> The software industry in Romania has grown by about 10% compared to 2019 and was 250% above the level of 2010.
>>> In 2020, the software industry has exceeded the threshold of 8.3 billion euros.
>>> In Romania, there were almost 27 thousand software companies active (2020), of which: 25.3 thousand are micro-enterprises, 1.1 thousand small companies, 353 medium companies and 21 large companies.
>>> The 10 largest companies in the industry have accumulated a turnover of approximately 1.4 billion euros.
The workforce can be a contributing factor to the growth of the software industry. And according to the latest data from Eurostat in 2019, Romania ranked 5th as a share of IT graduates out of total IT graduates in the EU. In numbers, out of a total of 158 thousand IT&C graduates at the EU level, Romania has approximately 7,900 IT graduates.
The digitalization process in our country continues the upward trend even in this quite difficult period for companies. And the ever-changing local software industry is proving that it can meet the challenges and contribute to the country’s economy.
