ROMAERO S.A. and RAYTHEON (NYSE: RTN) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will form the basis for local industry collaboration for the Patriot® program. The memorandum also opens up prospects for ROMAERO to export its production to Patriot systems around the globe.
“RAYTHEON continues to build sustainable partnerships with the Romanian defense industry,” said Tom Laliberty, vice president of anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems at RAYTHEON’s integrated defense division. “This memorandum is an opportunity for ROMAERO to be able to offer production and technical maintenance services for Romania-owned Patriot systems.”
Areas where RAYTHEON and ROMAERO could collaborate include: >Manufacture of mechanical parts and subassemblies; >Technical assistance for Patriot systems owned by Romania.
“This Memorandum represents the first stage of a partnership that can create many jobs in Romania and can provide us with a high level of understanding of ultra-modern defensive military technologies,” said Remus Vulpescu, ROMAERO General Manager. “Due to over 220 global Patriot systems, we have an export market with great potential.”
Patriot is a defensive system that is the basic element of NATO’s defense against ballistic and cruise missiles, advanced aircraft, and drones.
The Patriot missile program is “extremely important” for Romania, and the Memorandum of Understanding between Romaero S.A. and Raytheon Company is setting up one of our country’s maintenance centers for these missiles, Economy Minister Niculae Bădălău said on Wednesday.
Michelle De Maio, director of programs at Raytheon, said Patriot is a defense system and represents NATO’s air defense column.
A few weeks ago I participated in the third review of the Patriot Program for Romania (…) and I am excited to be here again in Bucharest in this wonderful palace for the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding. the agreement demonstrates Raytheon’s commitment to industrial partnerships with the Patriot system … It is the first step for Romaero to become part of Raytheon’s approved supply chain and to begin developing logistical support and maintenance opportunities for these systems “De Maio said.
