Bucharest, October 31, 2023#rbj – More than 70% of Romanian online stores are considering expanding their sales area outside the country, according to an analysis carried out this month, by Packeta Romania. Online retailers target for expansion, mainly, European countries where large communities of Romanians have developed.
Packeta Romania estimates the doubling of the monthly volume of international deliveries in November and December, when stores run discount campaigns, compared to the average of the first 10 months. During Black Friday (the month of November), online stores that also sell in other markets will even be able to triple their volumes on the cross-border segment.
“The last two months of the year are traditionally the most productive periods for online commerce, owing to retailers’ efforts in preparing extensive sales campaigns for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, and New Year’s. These moments usually lead to an increase in international sales. In 2022, for example, the volume of parcels delivered in November and December tripled compared to a regular period, confirming that year-end brings a significant boost in cross-border deliveries for online stores and an opportunity for retailers to enter new markets”, says Alexandr Jeleascov, Managing Director of Packeta Romania.
Predominantly, most cross-border deliveries from Romania reach Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece, Czechia, Slovakia, Germany, Italy, Spain, England, and Poland, focusing on areas with large Romanian communities. However, shipments are also made to other countries. These are, in fact, the regions targeted by Romanian online merchants for international expansion.
“Flexibility in delivery and adaptation to customer preferences and online store needs, along with straightforward e-commerce integration, are Packeta’s main differentiators in the international delivery market. These aspects recently supported us in establishing a strong cross-border delivery partnership with the Romanian brand Benvenuti. From now on, Benvenuti footwear and leather goods are quickly and efficiently delivered internationally by Packeta”, says Alexandr Jeleascov.
Currently, the fashion segment ranks among the top preferences for customers ordering from abroad—a significant change, as IT&C had previously dominated.
Premises for the international expansion of online stores
Technological advances and online trading platforms facilitate the international expansion of stores, and the availability of quality logistics services supports cross-border trade, ensuring quick and convenient deliveries and an easy-to-manage return process.
In recent years, venturing into overseas markets has become much simpler and safer, also thanks to integration with international payment systems. This allows online stores to accept various currencies and payment options, thereby gaining added credibility with customers.
A major contribution to the advance of international trade is made by the customers themselves, whose buying experience is always improved. This provides the premises for more accessible and credible reviews, strengthening the trust of other buyers from other countries as well.

Packeta Romania is a global digital platform for online commerce, a member of the Packeta Group, present in the Romanian market since 2017. The company aims to facilitate the logistics process for sellers and online stores through multiple delivery services without imposing pick-up locations and times on end customers. This is possible thanks to an extensive network of over 16,000 own pick-up points and lockers in Packeta Group’s international network and another 139,000 partner pick-up points and lockers across Europe. In 2022, the Packeta Group shipped over 90 million parcels and currently collaborates with over 46,000 online stores and sellers. Online stores can not only send parcels nationally, but also internationally, in all 27 European Union countries, plus the United Kingdom, the USA, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, and Turkey.
