For the processing of nuclear fuels, Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica (SNN) announces the establishment of the Uranium Concentrate Processing Factory branch-Feldioara SRL.
Following the conclusion of the contract between SN Nuclearelectrica SA (SNN) and the National Uranium Company (CNU) for the sale-purchase of some assets within the uranium concentrate processing line from the CNU Feldioara Branch, by GMS Decision no. 4 / 05.04.2021, it was approved the establishment of a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNN, as the sole shareholder. The main object of activity will be the processing of nuclear fuels, according to information of the company sent to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Also, based on the EGMS Decision no. 10 / 11.08.2021, the constitutive act of the SNN Feldioara Branch was approved.
SNN aims, through its investments, to provide the necessary infrastructure for the optimal processing of raw materials, to maintain and strengthen the integrated fuel cycle for the company’s long-term investment projects. These projects give the company a competitive advantage and an integrated approach to nuclear power production, the SNN communication said.
In this way, Nuclearelectrica will have a complete CANDU type nuclear fuel manufacturing cycle.
The uranium ore for processing at the Feldioara Factory comes from the Tulgheş-Grinţieş mines, in northeastern Romania. These mines were modernized in the 2000s and have a production capacity of 124,000 tons of uranium ore per year.
The Romanian state, through the Ministry of Energy, owns 82.5% of SN Nuclearelectrica, a company with a capitalization of 8.46 billion lei. Since the beginning of 2021, SNN shares have registered a 57% increase on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
