Bucharest, October 6, 2024 – RBJ – An information little taken into account has been circulating for about two days in the narrow circle of energy experts. This is because it is about coal, and all the projects in this field have been put on hold by the so-called green energy lobbyists. This is how it happened that under the pressure of some inept bureaucrats, in the summer of this year, without carbine energy, Romania imported huge amounts of electricity from our neighbors. For fear of a blackout, the Ministry of Energy gave an order to put into operation what was left of the former energy power of coal.
Of course, the future of coal in electricity production is bleak. But, Romania had to follow the policy of Germany and Poland to keep coal-fired power plants in operation until a sustainable energy policy is established. He did not do this and suffered a lot.
In this context, a light appears at the end of the tunnel.
The Oltenia Energy Complex announces the commissioning and interconnection tests with the National Energy System (SEN) of the energy group no. 5 Rovinari, following an extensive refurbishment program.
Group number 5 has an installed power of 330 MW production in the band.
Commissioning trials began on October 3, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., when the fire was lit and technological trials were conducted with all installations. On October 4, 2024, electrical tests and protection checks were carried out in order to discharge on the 400 kV line. All these tests were successfully completed, with the facilities operating within designed parameters. At 23:12, a first synchronization of generator no. 5 with SEN, after which tests will be carried out with the loading of the turbo unit at various loads and the operation of the facilities related to energy group no. 5.
In order to comply with the latest environmental requirements at European level, energy group no. 5 benefited from the implementation of modern facilities, including: electrostatic dust removal facility;
flue gas desulfurization plant; exhaust installations in dense slurry system; flue gas deoxidation plant.
The commissioning of the group represents an important step in the modernization of the company’s energy infrastructure, with the aim of reducing the impact on the environment and improving its technical and economic performance.
Steps are being taken at the Oltenia Energy Complex (CEO) level to increase production capacity.
Efforts are being made to put two more power groups into operation, and the total production to exceed 1,200 MW. Moreover, the company is in a position to produce with a total of 5 energy groups.
The increase in coal-fired power generation came at the request of the major shareholder. These are the Ministry of Energy, which owns over 70% of the shares of the largest producer of coal-based electricity in Romania. In fact, the Oltenia Energy Complex produces over 95% of our country’s coal-based energy.
The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, now claims that there is a great need for “in-band” energy, regardless of the source. The Oltenia Energy Complex can produce electricity at any time, but it is no longer wanted in the market. More coal-fired power is needed. A decision in this regard was taken within the Energy Command convened at the end of last week by the prime minister. A series of short- and medium-term measures have been established, stated the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja. At the same time, it is necessary to increase the production of energy in the band, regardless of the source; the standardization of the transmission of electricity measurement data between distributors and suppliers for a clear picture of consumption and production and the analysis of the price formation mechanism by ANRE for the protection of the final consumer.
