Bucharest, February 12, 2025 – RBJ – Today, Klaus Iohannis, the fourth president of the post-communist period of Romania, ended his term by resigning. A shameful and undignified resignation for a dignitary who held the first position in the state. His untimely departure that occurred for mercantile reasons. Because the process of impeachment of Klaus Iohannis had begun in the country’s Parliament. His impeachment means that he will lose the privileges granted to a former president: the protocol villa, security provided by state institutions, other free facilities.
In his 10 years as president of the country, Klaus Iohannis has only pursued his own interests and those of his family. In the last part of his second term, Klaus Iohannis’ only concern was private visits to the most exotic locations in the world, trips abroad on private planes for which he spent enormous sums without presenting any report on the purpose and efficiency of these trips.
One of Klaus Iohannis’ constant objectives in his 10 years as president of the country was the promotion of the country, which was carried out under the motto “divide et impera”. He was in permanent conflict with all political parties, including the one that propelled him, the National Liberal Party.
In 10 years of presidency, Klaus Iohannis did not promote any strategy for the future of the country, for improving the country’s status within the European Union or in the world. Today, Romania is one of the most isolated states in the EU, it has no special relationship with either Eastern or Western Europe. Although the government administration had relatively positive results in economic growth and the standard of living of citizens, on the external level Klaus Iohannis was an obstacle to the country’s affirmation in the EU and in the world concert so complex and difficult. He assumed the coordination of foreign policy on his own and did not have the capacity to establish partnerships and cooperation with other countries or international organizations.
Arrogant and conceited, Klaus Iohannis leaves behind him a political disaster unprecedented in Romania in the last 35 years.
