Bucharest, September 29, 2025 – RBJ – In 2024, the Romanian game development industry recorded a turnover of €343.16 million, according to the report conducted by RGDA (the Romanian Game Developers Association) and Banca Transilvania. This confirms the sector’s positive momentum, with the 2024 results marking an increase of around 8% compared to 2023, when the industry reported €317 million. At the global level, gaming industry revenues reached $187.7 billion.

The game development industry in Romania remains dynamic and diverse, currently bringing together 206 active studios. The capital city concentrates most of them, with 98 studios, followed by regional centers such as Cluj (32), Iași (12), Ilfov (8), Timiș (7), and Brașov (4). Another 45 studios operate in various counties across the country. Approximately 6,100 professionals work in this sector, slightly fewer than in 2023, but generating higher productivity: over €56,000 per employee.

“The video game development industry in Romania returned to growth in 2024, exceeding €343 million. This is an important sign of stability and maturity, confirming that the local ecosystem has the capacity to navigate the difficult global context and generate added value once again. It is essential to consolidate this development and transform it into more accelerated growth by stimulating the production of original games made in Romania,” said Alexandru Chica, president of RGDA.

The largest video game development companies in Romania in 2024, by turnover, are Electronic Arts Romania, Ubisoft Romania, Amber Studio, Green Horse Games, Gameloft Romania, Playtika, Super Hippo Games/Nutaku, Quantic Lab, eRepublik, AMC Romania, Fortis Games, Whyttest, and Funcom.
The share of multinational companies, which accounted for 89% of revenue in 2015, fell to 70% in 2024. The services sector grew to 18%, but studios developing original IPs recorded the most significant growth, reaching 12% of total revenues generated from original IP created in Romania, three times more than 10 years ago.

“The data on the structure of companies shows the maturation of the industry. This is a healthy development because it shows the diversification of the sector and the fact that Romanian studios are starting to build more and more of their own products with global potential,” said Andreea Medvedovici Per, executive director of RGDA.
