Craiova/Romania, May 20, 2026 – RBJ – The Ford Otosan plant in Craiova/Romania has reached a historic milestone: the production of the one millionth Puma, a performance that confirms the high standards of the Romanian plant.
Launched in 2019, the Ford Puma has consistently been the best-selling Ford passenger car in Europe, a true success story. Reaching the one million mark illustrates its continued appeal, supported by its design, practical innovations such as the MegaBox storage solution and highly efficient mild-hybrid engines.
The journey to one million units produced demonstrates Ford’s agility in adapting to market trends, with Puma managing to quickly transition from diesel and gasoline engines, to mild-hybrid and, from 2025, to full electrification, by launching the Puma Gen-E version.
“It is a real pride to produce the iconic Ford Puma model in our Craiova plant, this being the best-selling Ford passenger car in Europe and also a model with excellent results in recent years, especially in the UK market. This historic milestone would not have been possible without the dedication and passion of the people who have worked in this plant over time. They are the real engine behind this success and I thank them for their constant effort to deliver excellence,” said Fırat Elhüseyni, President of Ford Otosan Romania.
The undeniable success of the hybrid versions has transformed Puma into a reference name, paving the way for the new era of zero emissions. It is no coincidence that the one-millionth vehicle is the new Puma Gen-E: this first 100% electric model marks the brand’s transition and is a central component of Ford’s commitment to a fully electrified range in Europe.
By launching the Puma Gen-E version in 2025, Ford Otosan is writing a new page in the history of the national automotive industry, becoming the first manufacturer of 100% electric vehicles in Romania. This absolute premiere strengthens the position of the Craiova plant as a pioneer in the transition to sustainable mobility, demonstrating the long-term commitment to innovation and the development of a modern technological ecosystem locally.
The festive moment was shared with a very special guest. The future owner of the one-millionth model – a Ford Puma Gen-E – was present in Craiova to see in real time how her car comes to life on the assembly line. Although the Puma Gen-E is the first electric vehicle for the UK customer, she has a long and passionate history with the Ford brand, with her family being particularly fond of the legendary Mustang.
The celebration included a unique photo session that visually united history and the future. The first Ford Puma ever built in Craiova stood next to the 1,000,000th model, illustrating the evolution and adaptability of this product. Alongside them was the Puma Rally1, the flagship model for the World Rally Championship.
The market context remains favorable for this model produced in Romania. Puma is the best-selling car in the UK for the third consecutive year at the end of 2025, a success that will continue into the first months of 2026.
Locally, the new Puma Gen-E is recording very good sales performance, leading its segment, while the first units offering an extended range of up to 417 km (according to WLTP), are preparing to be delivered.
“For us it is a great joy to be able to offer customers such a successful national product, manufactured right here in Romania. To celebrate this special moment with our customers, Ford Romania has also prepared a dedicated financing offer, with zero interest, designed to further facilitate access to this exceptional car,” said Roxana Capătă, Managing Director of Ford Romania Services.
