The thermal power plant Mintia/Deva, Hunedoara county, was bought for 91 million euros by Mass Global Energy Rom, part of the Mass Group Holding group. The event took place during a public auction, the judicial administrator of the Complexul Energetic Hunedoara S.A. announced on Friday, in a press release sent to Agerpres.
“Insolvency Expert SRL, as the judicial administrator of the company Complexul Energetic Hunedoara SA, announces the sale by public auction of the Mintia Thermal Power Plant, owned by Complexul Energetic Hunedoara SA, to Mass Global Energy Rom, part of Mass Group Holding, an important regional producer of energy. which has capacities of over 8,500 MW. The transaction worth 91,236,832 euros, exclusive of VAT, is one of the most important for the Romanian energy sector and also one of the largest transactions with an insolvent unit”, it is stated in the communication.
According to the cited source, considering the specifics of the sold asset, the Ministry of Energy, as a shareholder, imposed certain conditions on the investor with the aim of relaunching energy production at Mintia. Thus, the buyer, Mass Global Energy Rom, has the obligation to, until December 31, 2026, complete the investment to create a new energy capacity with an installed power of 1290 MWH, of which at least 800 MWH in the gas and renewable energy band. The start of the investments will be possible after the authorities have granted the necessary approvals and authorizations.
“It is the first investment of the Mass group in Romania and certainly one of the most important for the development of our group, which has the mission of becoming a global example of energy generation for people. The investments in the modernization and development of the Mintia plant in the coming years will amount to more than 1 billion euros and will include the development of the production capacity and at the same time the adaptation to the new European standards for the transition to the production of electricity from renewable sources and which will lead to climate neutrality by the year 2050”, declared Ahmad Ismail Saleh, chairman of the Mass Group Holding Group.
The Mintia thermal power plant is composed of land on an area of 3,297,807 square meters, constructions, as well as movable goods and related equipment.
The public auction took place on Friday, August 26, 2022, at the headquarters of the judicial administrator, where only one bidder appeared, namely the representative of Mass Global Energy Rom, a company established specifically for this acquisition. It is the fourth auction for the exploitation of the Mintia thermal power plant.
The Mintia thermal power plant is located in the center of Romania, on the bank of the Mureş River, 9 km away from the city of Deva. Currently, the plant has five energy groups for the production of electricity and thermal energy, powered by steam boilers of 660 t/h, 13.72 MPa, 550 degrees Celsius.
The commissioning of the plant took place in three stages: 1969 – 1971 (stage 4×210 MW), 1977 – group 5, respectively in 1980 – group 6 of 210 MW each.
From its commissioning until the end of 2011, the Mintia thermal power plant delivered 204 TWh of the electricity required by Romania and consumed 117 million tons of coal.
The Mintia thermal power plant entered insolvency proceedings on November 14, 2019 and has been under conservation since the summer of 2021, in the absence of the necessary investments to be able to comply with the environmental provisions of the European Union.
