The employment rate of the population aged between 20 and 64 in Romania, an indicator of the degree to which the population is economically active, increased, in the third quarter, from 71.6% to 71.8 %, and remains above the target set for 2020, which provides an employment rate of at least 70%, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Friday.
In the second quarter, the employment rate of the population aged between 20 and 64 in Romania increased from 69.2% to 71.6%.
In the third quarter, employment statistics are weaker if you take into account the entire population of Romania considered to be working age, between the ages of 15 and 64.
In this category, the occupancy rate reached 66.7% in the third quarter, up from the previous quarter (66.4%).
In Q3, Romania’s active population was 9.116 million people, of which 8.766 million people were employed and 350,000 were unemployed.
The employment rate was higher in men (75.7% compared to 57.4% in women) and in urban areas (67.8% compared to 65.3% in rural areas). The employment rate of young people (15-24 years) was 25.6%.
The unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2019 was 3.8%, equal to the figure recorded in the previous quarter.
By sex, the difference between the two unemployment rates was 0.6 percentage points (4.1% for men versus 3.5% for women), and for residential areas, 1.2 percentage points (4.5 % in rural areas, compared to 3.3% in urban areas).
By age groups, the unemployment rate reached the highest level (17.9%) among young people (15-24 years).
