The volume of retail trade in Romania increased by 7.5% in July 2019, compared to the same month of 2018, this being the strongest growth rate registered among the Member States of the European Union, data released Wednesday by the Office shows European Statistics (Eurostat).
Comparatively, in the euro area, retail trade increased by 2.2% at an annual rate, while in the EU-28 there was an advance of 2.6%. Retail trade in the EU 28 was influenced by the fact that sales of non-food products rose by 3.7%, while sales of fuels increased by 2.4% and those of food, beverages and cigarettes increased by 1,2%.
From one month to the next, July 2019 compared to June 2019, the retail trade in Romania registered a 0.8% increase, the biggest increases in the European Union being registered only in Ireland (1.9%), Slovenia (1,2%), Bulgaria and Malta, both with an advance of 1%, and Austria, with an additional 0.9%.
The National Institute of Statistics (INS) informed today that the volume of turnover in retail trade (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, in July 2019, compared to the month July 2018, increased by 7.9% due to increases in retail fuel for motor vehicles in specialized stores (+ 9.0%), sales of non-food products (+ 8.7%) and sales of food products , drinks and tobacco (+ 4.7%).
