ROMAERO S.A. and Sikorsky, part of the Lockheed Martin group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday. It will be the basis for the collaboration between the two companies, in order to establish in Romania a Regional Center for Equipment and Maintenance of Black Hawk Helicopters, for Central Europe.
“The realization of the industrial partnership represents a major opportunity for the Romanian defense industry. According to the agreement, Romania would host the first regional Black Hawk equipment and maintenance center, valuing the logistical capabilities of the Romaero maintenance base and the company’s specific experience in aircraft maintenance, says Romaero.
The Black Hawk, the world’s most widely used multi-role and multi-mission helicopter, would be equipped by Romaero for both military missions and search and rescue operations, emergency medical services, command and control or official transport.
The Black Hawk helicopters will be delivered for completion to Romaero from the PZL Mielec factory, Poland, the largest production capacity of Lockheed Martin outside the USA.
The memorandum was signed during the “Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum 2020” event.
ROMAERO S.A. is the largest state-owned company in the Romanian aerospace and defense industry. The company operates in two economic fields: maintenance and repair services for civil and military transport aircraft and, respectively, industrial production of aerostructures and their components. With over a century of industry experience, over 900 highly qualified employees and significant development potential, ROMAERO has the capabilities to successfully participate in important aerospace and defense programs nationally and globally.
