Bucharest, January 9, 2025 – RBJ – Monsson, the largest developer of renewable projects in Romania, has received all approvals for the start of the largest photovoltaic park in Europe, in Arad County.
The private investment, worth 800 million euros, will be carried out on an area of over 1,000 hectares, in the communes of Pilu and Grăniceri. Its capacity will be 1,044 MW, being the result of collaborations between investors and local authorities.
The town halls of the Arad communes of Pilu and Grăniceri have completed all procedures and issued all necessary permits for the construction of the largest photovoltaic park in Europe, a private investment estimated at 800 million euros that will be made on a total area of over 1,000 hectares.
The mayor of Grăniceri, Petru Claudiu Bătrînuț, said on Thursday that the last documents for this photovoltaic park were issued in December, together with the Pilu City Hall.
“From our point of view, all steps have been taken, all procedures have been completed. According to the investors, construction works will begin in spring-summer. Recently, the investors have made changes to the project, taking into account technological developments. Fewer photovoltaic panels will be installed, but with a higher power, without affecting the initially announced electricity production capacity,” the mayor said.
The mayor added that the project will also attract other investors to the area.
“Several investments related to this photovoltaic park are foreseen, including a large data server farm, which would thus consume part of the electricity production,” said the mayor of Grăniceri commune.
In the fall of 2022, investors and local authorities presented the project for the largest photovoltaic park in Europe, which will have a capacity of 1,044 MW and will be developed on 1,064 hectares, following an investment of 800 million euros.
Sebastian Enache revealed that Monsson has about 2,000 MW in the project in Arad county, with two other photovoltaic parks to be built, in Chișinău-Criș and Macea, which will have a combined capacity of about 800 MW. Approximately 600 million euros would be invested in these two parks.
The three projects in Arad County developed by Monsson would mean total investments of 1.4 billion euros, to which is added 200 million euros invested in an energy storage station with a capacity of approximately 500 MW, at Grăniceri.
The consolidated projects will position Arad as a strategic pole of renewable energy in Europe.
The 1,044 MW project was sold to Rezolv Energy.
This massive project has the potential to attract new investments in the area, including a server farm that will use part of the energy produced. Monsson also plans to develop two other photovoltaic parks in the county, in Chișinău-Criș and Macea, with a cumulative capacity of approximately 800 MW, for which 600 million euros will be allocated.
Sebastian Enache had revealed since 2023 that Monsson plans to develop renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 2,000 MW in Arad County. These include two new photovoltaic parks, in Chișineu-Criș and Macea, whose cumulative capacity is 800 MW. The completion of construction had been estimated for 2026, and the investments for these projects were then valued at approximately 600 million euros.
In total, the three photovoltaic parks in Arad County, along with a 500 MW energy storage station in Grăniceri, involve investments of 1.4 billion euros, supplemented by 200 million euros allocated to the storage station. Marian Pavel, representative of Monsson, emphasized that all investments are exclusively private, without tax facilities from the state, part of the financing being provided through loans.
