The Ministry of Energy issued the authorization document for the offshore works required for the production of natural gas in the XV Midia perimeter, operated by Black Sea Oil & Gas, informs the institution.
The Authorization Act allows the construction of the offshore infrastructure of the Midia Natural Gas Development Project.
“This authorization act is extremely important not only for the project owner but also for the Romanian energy sector as a whole. The Act is a premiere in Romania’s offshore oil industry after 1989. The subject of the Black Sea natural gas reserves has long been discussed and designed as an opportunity for Romania to contribute to Europe’s energy security and to become a regional hub. This act moves from all these debates to effective action and is also a sign of confidence that we can, together with the companies that have invested in exploration in the Black Sea, capitalize on the energy resources that we have, “said Energy Minister Anton Anton .
Black Sea Oil & Gas SRL, owned by The Carlyle Group, is an independent oil and gas company based in Romania, operating exploration, development and exploitation of conventional oil and gas resources. The offshore concessions of the company amount to 4,200 square km.
After the emergence of offshore law, the company announced it would make a decision to continue investing in the development of the Midia project this year.
Lastly, Black Sea Oil & Gas SRL together with its concession partners, Petro Ventures Resources SRL and Gas Plus International B.V. have awarded GSP Offshore SRL the general business contract for the Midia project and Engie has completed its sales cordon for the gas supply of the Midia Project.
