The Center for the Treatment of Breast Diseases in the Euroclinic Hospital, part of the Regina Maria Health Network, became the first and only medical unit in the country dedicated to the care of women with breast disorders in Romania who received the SRC (Surgical Review Corporation) accreditation. In November 2019, he obtained the Center of Excellence certification after a comprehensive audit process, both of the hospital and the medical team, performed by specialists from the United States of America.
The multidisciplinary team consists of interventional imagers, surgeons who specialize in breast pathology, navigator doctors, anatomopathologists, oncologists, geneticists, radiotherapists, psychologists and oncology nutritionists. A multidisciplinary commission (Tumor Board) meets weekly in the Euroclinic Hospital to discuss and evaluate the particular situation of each patient, releasing a report with the recommendations and the optimal therapeutic option. Each case receives a resolution within 24 hours, including medical consultation and imaging investigations. If a breast biopsy is necessary, the result of the anatomopathological examination is released in about a week. The presence of the surgeon and the radiologist in the same center makes it possible to immediately evaluate the difficult cases and to quickly establish a complex diagnostic plan.
The center differs from other similar medical units through the support provided to patients by a dedicated navigator. Dr. Alexandra Pârvulescu, Radiotherapy specialist, takes over and evaluates the case, gives recommendations and guides the patient as soon as possible to the necessary consultation and investigations.
“This way of working is inspired by the British model at One Stop Clinic, which has proven beneficial for patients. At the end of the surgical and radiological consultation and evaluation we can give a clear answer to their concerns and, if necessary, we can start the appropriate treatment. Each case is entered in a central SRC database, which can be evaluated periodically and compared to the standards of care by the accreditation forum. The validation of the quality of Queen Maria services at international level honors us in the context of this national award. Accreditation as a Center of Excellence is a joy for the team at the Euroclinic Hospital, “said Dr. Victor Titirez, surgeon with European accreditation in breast oncology surgery, with over 8 years experience in breast surgery in centers in the United Kingdom. and over 3,000 surgeries in the treatment of breast cancer.
Dr. Gabriel Gogescu, primary physician of Oncological Surgery, has an impressive professional expertise, over 9,000 surgical treatments in the treatment of breast diseases, of which 6,000 are operations for the treatment of breast cancer.
In the Euroclinic Hospital, patients benefit from a state-of-the-art Siemens 3D mammography with Revelation tomosynthesis, which allows a better assessment of dense breasts and the efficient identification of small lesions, which can sometimes escape conventional or digital mammography, the results being clearly superior. The investigation reduces the anxiety level of the patients, as well as the additional costs. The device has the most advanced biopsy system integrated, which allows the diagnosis to be established quickly and accurately. This type of vaccum-assisted stereotaxic biopsy (VAAB) is unique in Bucharest and is performed by Dr. Isabela Botea, a specialist in Radiology and Medical Imaging, with a specialization in the evaluation and imaging investigation of breast pathology in Italy, at the Instituto Clinico Humanitas in Milan.
The health network Regina Maria is the leader in the quality of medical services in Romania, being the only operator that owns three hospitals with international accreditation.
