Bucharest, August 23, 2024 – RBJ (Source Agerpres) – Romania’s plan, worth five billion euros, for digitization and the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can generate increases in the incomes of organizations by up to 10%, and the national economy could grow with 13.5%, in the next six years, emerges from a specialized analysis, carried out by Businessing and the Gov-Smart company, published on Thursday.
According to the estimates included in the National Strategy in the field of Artificial Intelligence, by 2027, a proportion of 20.5% of the funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), i.e. over five billion euros, would be invested in the development of a performing digital ecosystem and encouraging the introduction of AI systems in both public and private services, writes Agerpres.
It is also predicted that, by 2030, Romania’s economy could benefit from a 13.5% increase, due to the extensive use of artificial intelligence in the business environment.
The analysis prepared by the communication agency Businessing and the company Gov-Smart shows that there are seven areas for digitalization policies included in the strategy: connectivity, human capital, e-government, digital public services and local digital ecosystems, digitalization of companies, investments in digital capabilities and placement of advanced technologies.
Thus, from the amount allocated to digitization, one billion euros would be used to develop the digital skills of the population, in the context in which, at the end of 2021, Romania was at the bottom of the European ranking in the segment of the integration of artificial intelligence in the daily activities of companies . Existing data reveal that only 1% of all active companies in Romania used AI in their work processes.
“This discrepancy between the identified potential and the current implementation underlines the need for sustained efforts to stimulate the adoption of AI technology in the Romanian business environment. A crucial aspect of this transformation is how technology influences jobs and the global economy. While some voices bring up the enthusiastic prospects of creating new opportunities and increased efficiencies, others draw attention to potential threats, such as job losses and rising economic inequality. Unequal access to technology and digital skills can create a two-speed society, in which some are advantaged, while others are left behind”, note the authors of the market analysis.
Currently, Romania ranks 18th in the European Union in terms of the number of specialized academic programs in the field of artificial intelligence. The first three places are Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.
