Bucharest, September 4, 2024 – RBJ – The Danone factory in Bucharest, the most efficient unit of the French group in Europe, with a capacity of 75,000 tons of dairy products annually, also produces the YoPRO drinking yogurt brand from this summer. The production is intended for the local market as well as the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, countries for which, until now, the Danone Aldaia factory in Valencia produced.
Starting this summer, the Bucharest factory of the French dairy producer Danone took over part of the production of the YoPRO drinking yogurt brand, according to a company release. The production is intended both for the local market and for the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, countries served until now by the Danone Aldaia factory in Spain, a unit led by the Romanian Cătălin Manoli.
Now, after part of the production was moved to the lines of the Romanian factory, YoPRO drinking yogurt is produced in Spain for other markets as well as YoPRO solid yogurt. This last product will also enter the Danone Bucharest production lines in the next period.
The change of the factory also implied a modification of the recipe, in the drinking yogurt produced in Bucharest, Magnesium and vitamin B9 were added. Also, the raw material milk for the product comes from local farmers with whom the company collaborates.
The YoPRO brand, both in drinkable and solid form, entered the local market last year, being imported from Spain. Now, until Danone produces solid yogurt in its factory in Romania, only the imported version of solid yogurt will be available on the shelves in the country.
“The team from Romania wanted very much to bring this project to the factory in Bucharest and we are proud to have expanded and diversified the production line with the YoPRO range, drinking yogurt rich in proteins. The local market segment dedicated to protein-rich products is growing, and our answer is a range of drinkable yogurts, with a formula that contains Magnesium and Vitamin B9, while also being rich in protein,” said Anca Miron, Head of Dairy Functionals Danone Central and Eastern Europe.
According to the company’s data, the Danone factory in Bucharest is currently the best-performing unit of the French group in Europe as a result of the investments. The unit has a capacity that reaches 75,000 tons of dairy annually, which facilitated the inclusion of the new type of product on the production lines.
With more than 96,000 employees and products sold in more than 120 markets, Danone generated sales of 27.6 billion euros in 2023. The Danone portfolio includes leading international brands (Actimel, Activia, Alpro, Aptamil, Danette, Danio, Danonino, Evian, Nutricia, Nutrilon, Volvic, etc.), as well as strong local and regional brands (Aqua, Blédina, Bonafont, Cow & Gate, Mizone, Oikos and Silk).
Danone acquired the Miorița dairy factory in Bucharest in 1996 and produced the first yogurt in 1999 after 3 years of investment in its modernization and re-technology. Currently, 1 million yogurts are produced daily in the factory in Bucharest, which reach Romanian consumers and 14 other European markets. Danone Romania annually processes over 60,000 tons of liters of Romanian milk collected from 22 large farms and over 220 households.
Danone is present on the Romanian market with fresh dairy products (Danone, Activia, Danonino, Actimel), plant-based products (Alpro), as well as food products for babies and specialized nutrition (Aptamil, Milupa, Forticare).
