Businessman Metin Doğan is investing over 60 million euros in the development of the National Golf & Country Club, the largest golf resort in Romania.
Located half an hour away from the north of Bucharest, in Niclești commune in Dâmbovița county, the National Golf & Country Club will include the largest golf course in Bucharest and its surroundings, a country club and a 5-star residential complex, as well as facilities exclusive, tailored to the lifestyle of golf enthusiasts and people looking for options to retreat from the urban agglomeration, all on an area of 72 hectares.
The first stage of the project is to be completed during 2023, when the golf course, the country club and almost half of the villas in the residential complex will be inaugurated, more than 80% of which have already been sold. The resort is set to be fully completed by 2025, when it will reach 170 villas in the residential complex, all overlooking the golf course and six hectares of man-made lakes, and will also include an aparthotel, a luxury SPA, restaurants, event halls, swimming pools, sports fields and children’s play areas. All buildings inside the resort will be equipped with solar panels.
“National Golf & Country Club started from the ambitious idea of creating a resort with all the facilities for golf enthusiasts from Romania and abroad, but also a retreat for those who want a lifestyle connected to nature, far from the city. With 18 championship size courses, the golf course is the centerpiece of the project. Thus, we support the community of golf players to follow their passion on a course that stands out at the European level and, through the Golf Academy, we contribute to the development of this sport with lifestyle valences in Romania”, says Metin Doğan, entrepreneur with investments in real estate and green energy in Romania and Turkey.
The construction work for the National Golf & Country Club started in 2022, in the context where there was no professional golf course in Bucharest and its surroundings. In comparison, Bulgaria currently has 8 courts with 18 routes, and at the European level, the more than 10 million players have at their disposal more than 9000 courts where they can practice this sport.
In recent years, the appetite for golf communities has increased, and the concept of residential complexes with golf courses and facilities for the whole family is beginning to take shape in the local real estate market. At the same time, tourism focused around golf represents an industry of over 4 billion euros at European level, a value that benefits European destinations able to accommodate the needs of golf players. Through this project, Romania will position itself as an attractive destination for local and regional golf communities and will thus be able to attract some of these funds to the local economy.
