Bucharest, January 31, 2024 – # RBJ (Source: Agerpres) – Public administration debt (government debt) increased, in November 2023, to 769.907 billion lei, compared to 753.009 billion lei in the previous month, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance.
As a percentage of GDP, government debt rose to 49.7% from 48.6% in October 2023.
In November, the medium and long-term debt increased to 723.923 billion lei, from 711.276 billion lei in October 2023, and the short-term debt increased to 45.984 billion lei, from 41.732 billion lei in the previous month.
The largest part of this debt, namely 631.522 billion lei, was represented by government bonds. The loans amounted to 122.205 billion lei.
The debt in the national currency amounted to 364.164 billion lei, the one in euros to 337.801 billion lei equivalent, and the debt in US dollars to 67.212 billion lei equivalent.
The debt of the central public administration was, at the end of November 2023, 750.186 billion lei, up from 734.112 billion lei in October, of which 704.245 billion lei in the medium and long term. Most of the debt of the central administration was contracted in lei (348.104 billion lei) and in euros (333.809 billion lei, equivalent).
The debt of the local public administration rose to 19.72 billion lei, from 18.897 billion lei in October 2023, of which 19.678 billion lei in the medium and long term.
The internal debt of the public administration was, in November 2023, 378.039 billion lei (24.4% of GDP), of which 362.923 billion lei is the debt of the central administration and 15.115 billion lei is the debt of the local administration.
According to MF data, the external debt of the public administration was 391.868 billion lei (25.3% of GDP), of which 387.263 billion lei was the external debt of the central public administration and 4.605 billion lei was the external debt of the local public administration.
