Romania is eligible to export raw-dried to the US after the final report of the audit mission of the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) concluded that the Romanian meat and meat product inspection system is organized as follows so as to provide final control, supervision and enforcement of the legislation, the Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) announced on Monday.
“As a result of the actions of the National Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), the final report of the audit mission of the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) carried out in Romania, online and on-site, concluded that the Romanian system of inspection of meat and meat products is organized in such a way as to provide final control, oversight and enforcement of legislation. ANSVSA continued efforts to complete the reinstatement of the equivalence of the Romanian meat inspection system with that of the USA, promptly responding to all requests from FSIS and United States Department of Agriculture – Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA – APHIS), regarding the additional animal health requirements necessary for the export of raw-dried salami from Romania to the United States of America”, the ANSVSA press release states .
On July 27, 2022, at the ANSVSA headquarters, a technical meeting was organized to discuss the requirements sent by APHIS for the export of raw-dried salami from Romania to the USA.
Through the Embassy of Romania in the USA and the Embassy of the USA in Romania, the FSIS address dated May 2, 2023 was forwarded, regarding the restoration of the equivalence of the inspection system of pork and pork products from Romania with that of the USA, in order to the export of meat products from Romania to the USA.
“Consequently, Romania is eligible (taking into account the animal health conditions of APHIS) to export raw-dried salami and canned pork. ANSVSA must send to FSIS the units certified for export to the USA which will be posted on the website- ul FSIS. Also, ANSVSA will submit for approval to FSIS, before the start of exports, the models of labels and export certificates, according to USDA – FSIS and APHIS requirements. In its efforts to restore equivalence, ANSVSA was supported by the US Embassy in Romania and the Embassy of Romania in the USA”, states the cited source
