Exports of soft wheat from the European Union in the 2021/22 season, which began on July 1 last year, reached 16.92 million tons by February 6, 2022, according to data published on Tuesday by the European Commission, Reuters reports, quoted by Agerpres.
According to these data, EU wheat exports are higher than in the same period last season, when 16.22 million tonnes of soft wheat were exported by February 6, 2021.
Among the member states, France has so far exported 4.97 million tonnes of wheat, followed by Romania with 4.64 million tonnes and Germany with 1.98 million tonnes. Algeria has been the main destination for EU wheat, with 2.58 million tonnes delivered so far, while China and Egypt are equal, with 1.64 million tonnes each.
Also, as of February 6, 2022, EU barley exports reached 5.14 million tonnes, exceeding the level of 4.75 million tonnes recorded in the same period last season. And in this case, France is the largest exporter of barley in the EU, with 2.35 million tons, followed by Romania, with 1.56 million tons. China is by far the main destination for EU barley exports at 2.09 million tonnes, followed by Saudi Arabia at almost 506,000 tonnes.
EU data also show that from the start of the 2021/22 season to the present, EU Member States have exported 3.48 million tonnes of maize, up significantly from just 1.43 million tonnes in the previous season. In this respect, Romania was responsible for most of the EU’s corn exports, with 2.61 million tons delivered so far.
On the other hand, Iran was the main destination for EU corn exports, with almost 905,000 tons.
