A report by the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) shows that Romania ranks fourth in Europe in terms of the number of employees in the automotive industry.
With the destruction of other strong domestic sectors, such as the petrochemical industry, the naval industry, the steel industry, the tractor industry, the Romanian economy is authoritatively dominated by the automotive industry. At least that’s what Eurostat data, taken by ACEA, shows. According to the latest statistics, no less than 194787 people in Romania are directly employed in the automotive industry. This value places the country in fourth place in the European Union, after Germany (919002 employees), France (238666 employees) and Poland (214642 employees).
States with a much higher car production than Romania have much less employees in this industry. For example, in Spain, the car industry directly employs only 161722 people, in Italy no more than 177908 people, and in the Czech Republic 181487 people.
More importantly, Romania ranks first in Europe if the number of employees in the automotive industry is related to the total number of people in the manufacturing industry.
As LifeNews.ro shows, citing ACEA data, 15.7% of all employees in the Romanian manufacturing industry are directly involved in the automotive sector, including both the production of machines and the production of components for them. The only state that is equal to Romania at the top of the ranking is Slovakia, also with 15.7% of total employees. And this in the conditions in which, the European average is 8.6%.
In order to understand how important the car industry is in Romania, it must be said that, by comparison, the percentage of employees in the car industry in the entire processing sector reaches, in Germany, only 11.3%, in the Czech Republic 13.7%, in Spain 8 %, and in Italy 4.7%.
Unfortunately, Romania is much lower in the ranking of complete vehicle production. Thus, with 437628 assembled units, Romania is behind Poland (450534 units) or Italy (796876 units), not to mention the states with millions of assembled vehicles such as France, Spain or Germany.
In this context, with a large workforce but employed especially in the area of the component industry, and a low production of cars, Romania ranks last in the European Union in the ratio between the number of employees and the vehicles produced. Thus, while an employee in the Romanian car industry produces 2.5 cars, the EU average is 7.4 cars/employee.
The leaders of the ranking made by the number of cars produced by each employee directly in the automotive industry are Slovaks (12.8 cars/employee), Slovenes (13.2 cars/employee) and Spaniards (18 cars/employee).
