Romania was last year fourth in the European Union in terms of oil production, with 3.6 million tonnes, down 2% year-on-year, according to a report by the British company BP worldwide.
The main producer in the EU was UK with 50.8 million tonnes, up 9%, followed by Denmark, 5.7 million tonnes (down 15.9%), and Italy, with 4 , 7 million tonnes (up 12.9%).
Worldwide, 4.474 billion tonnes of oil were extracted last year, plus 2.2% over the previous year.
The world’s largest oil producer remains the United States, with a production of 669.4 million tonnes, 16.6% more than in 2017. Saudi Arabia is ranked second with 587.3 million of tons, plus 3.4%, and the third place is the Russian Federation, with 563.3 million tons, up 1.6%.
In terms of proven oil reserves, Romania ranks second in the EU, with 600 million barrels per day (around 100 million tonnes), ahead of Danmark and on a par with Italy. Before our country, there is only the United Kingdom, with 2.5 billion barrels per day (300 million tonnes).
In total, the world’s proven oil reserves amount to 1,729 billion barrels per day (244 billion tonnes).
