Gas producers Romgaz and Petrom are considering the development of a joint project to produce hydrogen in a wind farm in Dobrogea, for the first time for the Romanian market, announced on Thursday Niculae Havrileţ, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment, at the Virtual Green Energy Forum.
“I believe that by the middle of next year we will have at least two wind and / or solar farms that will have hydrogen production. First of all, the initiative of the two major Romanian natural gas producers, which, through a joint action, want to set up the first hydrogen production farm from wind sources, in the Dobrogea area. Because the technology is very expensive, there is an initiative for this hydrogen manufactured for the first time to be used in the area of electricity producers in the Danube Delta “, said Havrileţ.
He reminded that the city of Sulina (Danube delta) was left without thermal energy, as the coal capacity there could no longer be used.
“There is a very important element since 2003, the inhabitants of the Danube Delta have subsidized both fuel and part of the electricity consumption, which would make hydrogen to be subsidized, being used in this area,” he added. said the Secretary of State.
According to him, the European Commission has established that hydrogen production must be supported by European funds, and the Modernization Fund will encourage the production of electricity that can be stored in either batteries or hydrogen.
