A new gas discovery in the Oltenia region, near the Totea deposit, which is in production. Probe Totea 4461 was drilled to a depth of over 4,300 meters, with investments of approximately 50 million euros, a press release of OMV Petrom shows.
The main Totea deposit was discovered in 2011 OMV Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer in South-East Europe, discovered new hydrocarbon resources in Gorj County.
“Throughout the years, Totea deposit has been one of the most productive in our portfolio. However, as with any oil and gas deposit, Totea went into decline after reaching its production plateau in 2017.
The drilling of the Totea 4461 well began in January 2018 and reached its final depth in September of the same year. The probe was successfully tested in April 2019 for volumes up to 500,000 cubic meters / day.
The connection to the infrastructure in the Totea area was made in less than a year and experimental production was started, to test the potential and size of the new discovery. Investments in the new well and related infrastructure amount to about 50 million euros. The amount is added to the 200 million euros already invested since 2011 for the development of the gas infrastructure in the Totea area. Development work included drilling five deep wells and constructing the Totea 4540 gas production park.
OMV Petrom is the largest energy company in South East Europe, with an annual oil and gas production at the group level of 58.3 million boe in 2018. The group has a refining capacity of 4.5 million tonnes annually and operates a highly efficient 860 MW power plant.
In the retail oil distribution market, the Group is present in Romania and neighboring countries through 789 petrol stations, at the end of June 2019, under two brands, OMV and Petrom., which is in production.
