The Dacia Duster SUV, produced in Romania, in Mioveni, by the Renault Group, was included by the British journalists from Autocar in a ranking of the best 4×4 and off-road cars of 2023. Beyond its price, the car Romanian is considered “sufficient to tackle wild areas”.
The journalists joined the model next to heavy names of the automotive industry, from the off-road segment. If the Land Rover Defender, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser, Mercedes-Benz G Class, or the newly launched Ineos Grenadier model are cars unanimously recognized by specialists as the best equipped cars to run off-road, on rough terrain, they also have prices according to the technology at their disposal, Duster is considered more of a road SUV and too few consider its off-road capabilities.

Dacia models produced in Romania since 1968

“It’s not as cheap as it used to be (there’s no entry-level Access all-wheel drive now), but at just under £21,000 for the Expression dCi 115 4×4 it’s still affordable, whatever type of vehicle you’re looking for “, begin their description of the British, who ranked Duster in 10th place among the best 4×4 and off-road cars.
The British also say that the Duster 2 feels “more modern and more compact than its predecessor”, but also that “the steering is precise, the body control is good and has more than enough grip”, but also that the “light and long suspension combined with tires of high profile, let you tackle bumps and potholes with rare confidence.” Even so, the article states that the Duster “feels even better on the road.”
The best 4×4 car of 2023, according to Autocar, is the Land Rover Defender.
The history of the Dacia car begins in 1966, according to an agreement between the Romanian state and the French manufacturer Renault. In 1968, the construction of the Dacia 1100 model began under the R8 license.
In 1969, the Dacia 1300 car went into production, which was based on the French Renault 12 model. This model, which now seems like a distant memory, turned out to be an economical and quite modern model. Avesta had a capacity of 54 HP and reached a speed of 144 km/h. Consumption was 9.4 liters.
In 1970, Romanian engineers launched no less than three variants of the 1300 model, respectively: the Standard, Lux, and Lux Super 1301 models.
The year 1973 also has a special significance for the manufacturer Dacia. That’s when the production of station wagon models began. At the same time, the Dacia 1302 van was also taken out of production in 1975.
In 1995, the first 100% Romanian car was launched. Romanian engineers created Dacia Nova, which was inspired by Renault 11 and Peugeot 309. The car had 4 doors and 5 seats and was a hatchback type.
In 1999, the privatization of the Dacia company took place. This became the brand of the Renault Group and had the role of supporting the development of this model on emerging markets.
2000 was the year in which the Romanian-French collaboration materialized in a Dacia SuperNova model.
Dacia Logan, in the 1.4 MPI and 1.6 MP1 versions, appeared in 2004, and in 2005 it surpassed the previous Dacia records: 164,000 units sold/year.
We met Dacia Sandero in 2008, while the Duster was launched in 2010.
