Bucharest, June 16, 2023 – In a “strategy” intended to calm the political life in the country and to stabilize the political ambitions of the various parliamentary groups, a coalition has been created since 2021 between the main political forces, namely the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL). According to a protocol between the two parties, the leadership of the government was divided half-time. The first half belonged to PNL, and the second to PSD.
By virtue of this agreement, yesterday the Parliament voted the new component of the government led by PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu.
The Cabinet was voted without emotions in the Romanian Legislature with 290 votes “for”. There were 95 votes against and zero abstentions.
Of the 465 members of the Legislature, 411 were present, 385 votes were cast, of which 0 were canceled. The total number of valid votes was 385.
Unlike the first part of the current legislature, now the Hungarian formation, UDMR, has been excluded from the government, as a reaction to the pro-Russian policy of the Budapest government, to which UDMR is a subordinate acolyte.
The prime minister designated for the formation of a new coalition government, Marcel Ciolacu, made several promises at the vote of confidence in Parliament, emphasizing that he supports the elimination of special pensions for parliamentarians. At the same time, he emphasized that the place of the Romanian state is in the EU and NATO.
The government program of PM Marcel Ciolacu tries to give weight to objectives that promise Romanians a better life.
Thus, from January 1, 2025, “no full-time employee with a dependent child will earn less than 500 euros net monthly” and “no young person under the age of 26, employed full-time in Romania, will not earn less than 500 euros net monthly.”
PSD also claims that over 1.5 million individual employment contracts will be remunerated with 1,500 euros / net monthly and the average net salary in Romania will exceed 1,000 euros. These promises are mentioned in the chapter “Social targets to be achieved by December 2024” and are not specified in the first form of the program.
As for economic patriotism, this “refers to the fact that any company on the territory of Romania that produces and has employees will be equally protected and encouraged.”
